Using the cutting-edge CEREC technology, we can build and place a dental crown in just a single, 1-2 hour appointment
With a same-day crown, you won’t have to wear an uncomfortable temporary or schedule multiple appointments to restore your tooth
CEREC crowns are made out of a solid block of tooth-colored porcelain, and they look and feel just like a natural tooth
With CEREC technology, you can get immediate relief from the pain and discomfort of a decayed or damaged tooth
In the past, dental crowns had to be made by an outside dental lab, which requires 2 appointments over a period of 2-3 weeks. However, same-day crowns have been made possible by advances in CEREC and CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Manufacturing) technology. Same-day crowns are made by scanning your mouth with special imaging equipment, then uploading the information into a milling machine.
Dr. Villalobos will design your crown based on the scans we take of your teeth, then load a block of porcelain into our in-office CEREC machine, which will automatically trim the block into the proper shape. Then, the crown can be permanently placed onto your tooth to cover and restore any damage.
Same-day crowns are appropriate for almost every situation when a traditional, lab-made crown is recommended. They can be used to restore decayed, infected, or damaged teeth, or for cosmetic purposes, in some cases.
However, there are a few exceptions. Teeth that are broken below the gum line, for example, can’t be treated with a CEREC crown. The 3D scanner used to capture an image of your mouth cannot be used to scan this area, so a traditional crown may be required. To see if a same-day crown is right for you, contact Coronado Dental Associates and book a visit today!
After you’ve been approved for a same-day crown, Dr. Melanie Villalobos will begin by cleaning and numbing the treatment area. Then, any decayed or damaged enamel will be removed and your tooth will be shaped into a strong platform to which your crown can be attached.
Next, your mouth will be scanned with a handheld 3D scanner. We will upload these images and use cutting-edge software to begin designing your crown. Once the design has been finalized, a block of tooth-colored porcelain will be loaded into our CEREC machine and your crown will be custom-made.
Next, Dr. Villalobos will check the fit of the crown and make any final adjustments. Finally, your crown will be bonded into place permanently using dental cement, completing the procedure.
