Lumineers are just like veneers, except they’re made from a special type of porcelain that’s very strong, yet extremely thin. This means they require minimal enamel removal during the treatment process.
Just like traditional veneers, Lumineers can treat issues like stained teeth, gaps in your smile, uneven teeth, minor chips, and much more.
Your new smile will look and feel completely natural, and Lumineers will help boost your confidence and self-esteem when you smile, laugh, eat, and speak around others.
Lumineers are usually reversible, unlike traditional veneers. This makes them a better option for people who are uncomfortable with permanent veneer treatment.
Lumineers are a special brand of veneers from a company called Cerinate. In most ways, they’re identical to traditional porcelain veneers. They are thin shells of porcelain that are designed to permanently attach to your teeth and cover up flaws in your smile.
The big difference is that traditional veneers are usually quite thick, up to 0.5mm in thickness or more. This means you need to have your teeth trimmed to make room for them. In contrast, Lumineers are usually 0.2mm thick or less. This is about the thickness of a contact lens.
Because they’re so thin, Lumineers can usually be placed with no alterations or minimal alterations to your natural enamel. This makes the process faster, simpler, and less invasive. It also allows Lumineers treatment to be reversed in the future, if desired.
The Lumineers treatment process usually takes two appointments over a period of several weeks, similarly to traditional veneers.
At your first appointment, Dr. Villalobos will clean your teeth and then take images and impressions of your mouth. In some cases, your teeth may need to be adjusted slightly to accommodate the Lumineers. Once your impressions have been taken, they will be sent to the dental lab where your veneers will be made.
Then, you’ll just need to come back to our office in a few weeks when your Lumineers arrive at Coronado Dental Associates. Dr. Villalobos will check the fit of your Lumineers. If everything looks good, they will bond them into place permanently, attaching them to your teeth with powerful dental cement.
The answer is usually “yes.” Most patients do not need their teeth to be trimmed to get Lumineers. However, everyone is different. In some cases, it may still be necessary to trim and adjust some of your teeth before treatment with Lumineers.
To determine whether or not your Lumineers treatment will be reversible, you’ll need to get a consultation with an experienced Lumineers dentist in Coronado, such as Dr. Melanie Villalobos.
Not everyone is a good candidate for Lumineers. For example, if you have severely stained teeth, thin Lumineers may not completely cover up these stains, and you may be better off with thicker, traditional porcelain veneers.
To learn more and see if Lumineers are right for you, we recommend scheduling an appointment at Coronado Dental Associates. Dr. Villalobos can help you explore your options for cosmetic dentistry in Coronado.
